Odds ratios- relationship between people with the disorder vs. without the disorder. Gene for seratonin transporter 5-htt is one of the genes that predisposes for depression. Odds ratio of 3- early childhood trauma. (losing a parent, being in foster care) Odds ratio of 1. 3- life events within previous 6 months (loss of a job, child) Biggest odds ratio is 10 severe, 1 month. Biggest one is family which odds ratio is 35. Includes bipolar depression, major depression, and substance abuse. Also family chaos plays a smaller role in major depression . The more chaos in the family, the more bipolar situations. Just need a few good/bad things happening and throw it into a full scale of bipolar disorder. 1. 2 - rhythm disturbances/ sleep disturbances which also comes back to kindling. People that are prone to susceptibility can lead to bipolar. Plasticity- changes in neuronal structures that come and go.
