Response on y axis and log dose on x axis. Propranolol is a blocker (antagonist)(blocks naturally occuring heart rate. The ratio between lethal 50% of people over the effective dose is called the therapeutic index. Which is how easy is is to accidently take a lethal dose anything less than 10 index fda won"t approve. As you get higher along the dosage no matter what drug you are taking except for marijuana, you will die from it. Biological factors: weight- the more you weigh , the more dosage due to muscle mass. For children it is determined by their body surface area (tallness: gender- women have a naturally occurring substance which modulates the same receptor that these drugs work on. Naturally occurring substance is relating to sex hormones estrogen and progesterone . Women"s response to cns is different from men and different over the menstrual cycle: genes- there are genetic differences in some of the enzymes that break down drugs.
