Emile durkeim- solidarity pg 44: common bond between works engaged in same tasks, greater in agricultural societies, mechanical solidarity: people come together naturally, organic solidarity: each person contributes to the whole. Max weber-work ethic: protestant work ethic-work is a gift from god and should be rigorously pursued like religious duties. Hard work and frugal investment : wrote protestant ethic and spirit and capitalism, often applied to workers, concerns about owners-could exploit and be mistreat workers, tied to capitalist economies, modernization theory. International financial institutions: bretton wood institutions, established in 1945 in bretton wood nh to address world economic market. Labor and trade in developed markets: technology displaces unskilled workers, protectionism policies won"t help either. Increasing tariffs to benefit unskilled workers doesn"t bring jobs back to us but results in production shifting to other low-wage countries ie from india to vietnam.
