Document Summary

Impressions of what men/women should do start very young. Credentialing: expertise in a certain area (degrees, certificates) But then the pay off should be fair: everyone with the same degree should be rewarded the same, this is very rarely the case. Not just about credentialing, but who can make the commitment to invest in themselves: but even before women take off for maternity leave, the wage gap is already there. It"s not always just up to the individual; depends on their ses, race, gender, etc. Gatekeeper: doctor who gives you a referral to a specialist. People end up stuck in industries they don"t want to be in, people are limited to what they can do based on gender, race, etc. Looking at people one year after college. Differences in earnings for women and men: different majors. Male dominated majors have higher paying jobs. Cumulative effect even if well paying jobs.
