Document Summary

Creates charged particles (ions) from gas phase molecules. Uses electrons impact to ionize a molecule. First ionizes a molecular gas which in turn ionizes the molecule of interest. Mass spectrometry analyses ions to provide info about the molecular weight of the compound and its chemical structure. It flows through a filament current, which ionizes the gas. A magnetic field at the end of the tube separates the ions by mass. The magnetic field deflects the lightest ions. Most everything in nature comes as a mixtures. Based upon the differing interactions between the components of a mixture and some other compounds. Mixture to be separated is placed at the beginning of the chromatographic system. The mobil phase then pushes" the components of the mixture through the system. Each component absorbs on the the stationary phase with a different strength. Stronger means moves more slowly through the system. Each component comes out the end of the system at a different time.
