Family structure: refers to the form a family takes, and varies according to the society in which it is embedded. Extended family: cousins, grandparents, uncles, etc: the extended family of parents, children, grandparents, and other relatives performed most societal functions, including economic production (e. g. , the family farm), protection of family members, vocational training, and maintaining social order.
