Speech pathologist- assesses language abilities and provide intense therapy. Social worker/ psychologist- assess motivation, expectations and family support. If you put this metal piece in it is going to wipe away any left over hearing you had; you will go deaf. Processor: converts acoustic signal to electric signal, manipulates electric signal, skips hydraulic and mechanical energy, body work or ear level models (mostly ear level) External receiver or transmitting coil: connects to head by magnet which is implanted in the head, transmits signal through the skin to an internal receiver. Internal receiver: communicates with external receiver, sends signal to electrode array, electrode array, strip of electrodes (up to 32) are inserted into the cochlea, tonotopically arranged, low frequency: near apex, high frequency: near base. How it all works: microphone picks up the sound, signal crosses skin to internal receiver, internal receiver sends electrical impulse to electrode ray, the electrodes essentially by-pass the damaged cochlea and stimulate the auditory nerve directly.
