Sadness: normal reaction to loss, life"s struggles, or injured self-esteem. Major depression: feelings of sadness that are so continually intense that they interfere w/ one"s ability to think, work, eat, sleep, enjoy being w/ others, or care for themselves. Sensitive to hormonal changes during pregnancy, childbirth, and menopause. More willing to admit to depression and seek help. Minor depression: similar symptoms to major depression but less severe. Dysthymic disorder: chronically depressed mood, experienced more days than not and lasting for at least two days.
