After inter-racial interactions, ppl perform worse on cognitive tasks. Tendency to think in us vs them categories. Entity: infer strong traits from little info, confident in predictions. Incremental: traits are tentative predictors, less confident in predictions. Personality trait ppl have it regardless of situation. Openly-expressed prejudice & negativity toward other racial groups. Negativity expressed only when it"s safe to do so. : play it safe around ppl you don"t know well. Conflict btwn neg. reactions towards minorities & desire to be fair/egalitarian. Neg. attitudes towards women, inc. desire to dominate & degrade them. Pos. attitudes towards women, inc. desire to protect & idealize them. Seems better, but more related to workplace evals & recommendations for promotion. Most social psych phenomena are measured by direct self-report. Problem: internal & external motivation to control prejudice. Related to both discriminatory behavior & explicit measures of prejudice. Worse predictor of explicit measures in socially sensitive contexts.
