Experiencing āBaby Bluesā!
-Approx. 70% of women experience ābaby bluesā!
-Time limited. It usually occurs within the ļ¬rst three days following birth and continues
for a couple of weeks and goes away on its own.!
-Not functionally impairing. !
Experiencing Postpartum (after children birth äŗ§å) depression !
-Approx. 10-15% of women experience PPD.!
-Linger for weeks/ months !
-IS functionally impairing. !
-Feeling sad, having depressed mood, change of appetite, feeling hopeless. !
-Risk factor: depression before!
How can we study what a Neonate experiences?!
-Assess Neonate reļ¬exes (central nerve system is functioning)!
ā¢Simple, unlearned, ļ¬xed responses that are elicited by speciļ¬c stimulation!
ā¢Provides info on neural functioning!
Moro, Stepping, Grasping, Rooting !
-Stepping motionā>precursor to walking, disappear completely later, This reļ¬ex is
also called the walking or dance reļ¬ex because a baby appears to take steps or
dance when held upright with his or her feet touching a solid surface. This reļ¬ex
lasts about 2 months.!
-Moro reļ¬ect ā> startle the baby, hugging motion, causes the baby to cry, throw
back his or her head, and then pull his or her limbs into the body.!
-Grasping reļ¬ectā>using 4 ļ¬ngers no thumb, over a little bit of time, attachment,
