PMT
What does the ABC model stand for?
Antecedent- right before behavior (environmental trigger)
Behavior- bad behavior, disruptive, defiant, temper tantrums
Consequence- pay off- what does kid get or not get.
Function Behavior:
Escape- tantrum to escape
Tangible- getting something concrete- chloe if she did procedure she would get a sticker
Attention--tantrum to get attention
Automatic- self stimulation, lower function in autism, moving hands a lot, lack of physical
stimulation therefore behavior gives that stimulation you were seeking
Daughter throwing tantrum for phone- parents give and daughter gets exactly what she wants.
Daughter will learn to repeat tantrums to get what she wants. Positive reinforcement.
How long before kid understands-
Quality
Time
Effort
rate - how frequent
How do you know if PMT is effective-
Behavior is maintained over time- after two days of therapy if kid is changed does not mean
they are changed forever, they need consistency
Improvement in behaviors with family like siblings or parents.
Parents who argue- marital problems is main reason for child’s behavior
Ped. Cancer
What are two most common types of ped. Cancer
1 in 3 - leukemia
1 in 4- Brain spinal cord tumors
Little girl in video had neural gastoma- tumor on gland and neck
What are cognitive late effects-
Attention
Memory- bad working memory which leads to:
Lower Intelligence and achievement scores

Classical conditioning (Ivan Pavlov)- A type of learning in which a stimulus acquires the capacity
to evoke a response that was originally evoked by another stimulus.
Unconditioned stimulus (US)-A stimulus that evokes any natural response, without previous
conditioning.
Conditioned stimulus (CS)- A previous neutral stimulus that has, through conditioning, acquired
the capacity to invoke a conditioned response.
Unconditioned response (UCR)-An unlearned reaction to an unconditioned stimulus that occurs
without previous conditioning.
Conditioned response (CR)- A learned reaction to a conditioned stimulus that occurs because of
previous conditioning.
Conditioned taste aversion- Adaptation to the environment; survival mechanism
Conditioned emotional responses-
Little Albert study- Little Albert played with a white rat. Researchers played a sound of a gong,
which scared him. Soon Little Albert became afraid of the rat. Little Albert also became afraid of
things that looked like a white rat, a rabbit, Watson’s hair.
Acquisition-learning or habit
Extinction-Gradual weakening and disappearance of a conditioned response tendency.
Spontaneous recovery- Re-emergence of previously extinguished CR.
Stimulus generalization vs. stimulus discrimination
*NOTE: You do not need to know evaluative conditioning (described on page 187) or
higher-order conditioning (described on page 192).
Operant conditioning (B.F. Skinner)-Coined the term operant conditioning. A form of learning in
which responses come to be controlled by their consequences.
Skinner box- Rat in the box
Shaping- reinforcement of successive approximations of a desired behavior.
Positive and negative reinforcement-Occurs when something is added to the situation.
Positive and negative punishment-Occurs when something is taken away.
