Sex: determined by the anatomical body parts in sexual reproduction, male and female . Gender: socially constructed statuses that involves a whole set of behaviors that are based on cultural notions of femininity and masculinity, two-and-only-two gender system. Boy/man and girl/woman : third genders individuals who may be biologically in one category according to sex but socially treated as the opposite category, transgender gender identity doesn"t match their biological sex. Gender socialization: process of learning cultural norms that proscribe gendered behaviors on the basis of biological sex. Individuals are born sexed but not gendered, and they have to be taught to be masculine or feminine. (lorber p. 101) (stereotyped) gendered behavior: Feminine pink, ballet, makeup, sensitivity, manners, barbies. Masculine blue, sports, cars, strong, outdoors, mechanical, competitive. Gender shifts: being treated as a member of the opposite sex. Gender bending: actively transgressing expected gender roles. Gender blending: melding male and female attributes.
