Document Summary

Gametes have half as many chromosomes as the somatic cells. All the dna in a cell is referred to as its genome. Septum- where new cell wall is formed in the middle by tubin like protein. Ploidy is the number of chromosomes set in the nucleus. Plants are often polyploid, meaning they have more than two sets of chromosomes. For it to be homologous, it must be the same length, same centromere position, and have the same genetic content. Locus is the gene"s specific position on a chromosome. There are three intervals: g1- growth of cytoplasm, s- duplication of chromosomes, g2- growth and preparation for division. Mitotic phases is division: mitosis- division of the nucleus, cytokinesis- division of the cytoplasm. Kinetochore- proteins at centromere that interact w/ spindle mt. Used to come out of resting state (go) and re-enter the cell cycle. Anchorage dependent- need substrate on the plasma membrane to bind in needs increased.
