Texas is not in isolation, it is in a mix of other societies. Comanche were comfortable with trading with the spanish because it was beneficial to them. One of the upsides of the french and indian war was that the spanish gained control of french territory in louisiana and the mississippi. What happened to louisiana because it was the major trading partner with texas. What happened to louisiana or french territory was decided upon by what happened in europe. The comanche were okay with trading because the french were easier traders (such as guns), Spanish were more reluctant to trade guns with the indians. Conditions that had transpired in long distance comanche lands, affected a treaty and peace with the comanche in texas. With a treaty with the comanche, san antonia began to flourish. The main point of trade after 1785 was no longer northern new mexico but instead new.
