PSYC 107 Lecture 7: Biological Perspective #2
Document Summary
Cells are polarized more negative on inside. Channels along axon that open up and allow positive ions to flow in. At the terminal buttons, neurotransmitters are released at the synapse (dead space area) Messages sent on to the next neuron. Repolarization: negative in, positive out resets. Spinal cord: pathway connecting the brain and pns. Can direct simple reflexes (reflex arc) without having information going up to the brain. Spinal cord tells body to respond without needing immediate brain involvement: example: removing your hand from a hot pan before feeling the burn. Interprets and stores info, sends orders to muscles, glands, and organs. Evolved from the back to the front like a helmet. Oldest and most primitive part of the brain. Newest part of brain is in the front.
