PSYC 107 Lecture Notes - Lecture 7: Primary Motor Cortex, Frontal Lobe, Temporal Lobe
Document Summary
*top most brain structures are the cerebrum and the cerebral cortex. *both are the seat of abstract reasoning, planning, and higher-order thought. Cerebrum each of the large halves of the brain covered with convolutions (folds) Composed of 4 large areas called lobes located on the left and right sides of the brain. Frontal lobe front part of the brain. Attention, holding things in mind while we solve problems, planning, abstract thinking, control of impulses, creativity, social awareness. Primary motor cortex : output, left hemispheric section, co(cid:374)trols (cid:271)ody"s right side. Parietal lobes top/rear sections of the brain. Input: left hemispheric section, re(cid:272)eives i(cid:374)put fro(cid:373) the (cid:271)ody"s right side. Temporal lobes below the frontal and parietal lobes, right behind the ears. Auditory cortex : sound information arrives from the thalamus and then to the occipital lobes. Optic nerve travels from the eye to the thalamus and then to the occipital lobes. Primary visual cortex: visual information is processed.
