3/11/16: modern intelligence testing began with binet in 1905. An attempt to predict school aptitude among french school children. The goal was to determine aptitude rather than achievement. Revised and re-standardized 1937, 1960, 1972, 1986, and 2003. Your score indicates where you stand relative to your age group the standardization group. Average score is de ned as a score of 100. Normal curve and standard deviation (see pages a3 and a4) Give the test to a large number of people. A mean score is assigned an iq score of 100. For each standard deviation above or below the mean, add/subtract 15 iq points. Until 1986 stanford binet gave a single score. Verbal reasoning quantitative reasoning abstract/visual reasoning short term memory. Iq scores re ect academic ability (not intelligence, which is more complicated) Poorest section of the city 3% of the population & 33% of kids with iq score of 50 to70: mothers iq scores were also low.
