Deviance violates norms, socially unacceptable, people don"t understand, (suicide) makes people anxious. Homosexuality dsm 3 1980 ; 3r 1987; 4, 1994. Danger to self or others but mountain climbers 40/yr die on everest. Tricky, slippery slope, think jesus, mandella, mlk, gandi. Not always some severly disturbed people think they are fine. Mental illness as a disorder of the body(biogenic): 1770"s -benjamin rush excess blood on the brain.
