Chicago"s gangs (small group of gangs committing a good portion of crimes: number of homicides, of homicides related to gang homicides in populations of 100,000 or more (20-40%, firearm availability = more access because of black market. Gang hotspot: specific areas where gangs commit the majority of their crime within their neighborhood (small portion/area of it) Juveniles/adults: juveniles involved in gangs (twice as likely to be arrested than non-gang members, adult inmates (at least 19%) in both federal and state. Self-report = problem with over-reporting, but it may not even be a crime; some people as a victim may think that a gang member attacked them but that may not be the case. Police report = different departments measure/defining it differently (skew in data) If more membership, doesn"t mean increase in crime; policies come into play: increase in latino caused panic = made idea that more crime was occurring and started mislabeling gang members.
