Genes: are units of information about heritable traits, are linear stretches of dna, each gene has a particular locus. In eukaryotes, genes distributed linearly among chromosomes: locus is the location of a gene on a chromosome. Is a picture of the chromosomes in a cell that is used to check for abnormalities. Mt formation: cells are broken open in hypotonic solution. Family trees and hemophilia: males are squares (more males have hemophilia, females are circles (in this case, females are carriers, roman numeral used to identify each generation. If trait appears, then circle or square is filled in with red. If carrier, the circle is filled with green. Inherited conditions that cause mild to severe medical problems: why don"t they disappear, mutation introduces new rare alleles. In heterozygous, harmful allele is often masked, but it can still be passed on to offspring.
