BIOL 4376 Lecture Notes - Lecture 41: Reverse Cholesterol Transport, Lipoprotein Lipase, Ldl Receptor
Document Summary
Tell the lipoprotein that it"s time to remove cholesterol from peripheral tissues. Involved chylomicrons and the transport of lipids from dietary fat. Where cholesterol and lipids are synthesized by the liver and delivered to peripheral tissues. Transports cholesterol from peripheral cells back to the liver. There are different lipoproteins and the role in transporting cholesterol to tissues or removing them is different. Dietary cholesterol from the food that we eat. Lipoprotein lipases hydrolyzes triglycerides, then provided to tissues as a source of energy or stored in adipose for later use. Vldl takes cholesterol that is synthesized in our liver (endogenous). Then hydrolysis by lipoprotein lipase provides tags to cells. As tags are removed from vldl, ldl is formed, transporting cholesterol synthesized in the liver to tissues. Hdl transports cholesterol from the peripheral cells back to the liver. In the case of an individual who has high circulating ldl, there is a higher level of delivery into the cells.
