ENVT 0845 Lecture Notes - Lecture 1: Ph Meter, Nephelometer, Activated Carbon
Document Summary
The purpose of this lab was to examine the process of dirty water becoming purified to meet the standards of drinking water. The process included several steps including coagulation, sedimentation, and filtration. Additionally, the purpose of this lab was to notice how the turbidity lowered throughout the process of purifying the water, as turbidity is a key test of water quality. We were trying to achieve a turbidity closest to zero. Tap water the tap water was the basis of the experiment. We used this in mostly every step as the base. Clay we used this to add to the water to make it dirty. Glass beaker we used a 1000ml glass beaker to hold the tap water and clay mixture. Graduated cylinder we used the graduated cylinder to measure 4 ml of concentrated ferric chloride. Concentrated ferric chloride we used the ferric chloride to add to the clay-water solution to act as a coagulant.
