Health disparity is used almost exclusively in the united states health inequality is used outside the united states inequity implies ethical judgement unjustness unfairness. Disparity implies injustice in public health and social science. To measure this disparity we can compare the reference group to a group in the non- minority population or general pop. Disparities in the prevalence of overweight and obesity also exist based on socioeconomic status. Men will be equally likely of being obese whether there in a high income or low income group. Low income: low income individuals are 2-5 times more likely to suffer from a diagnosable mental disorder than those in the top ses bracket. Within families, economic hardship can lead to marital distress and disrupted parenting which in turn may increase mental health problems among children, such as depression, substance abuse, and behavior problems. Low ses is associated with increased morbidity and mortality.
