Starts in the middle of the story to leave room for the reader to infer about the characters: athena- Disguises herself to relate and communicate better. Women were held to a higher standard thn men. Zeus was allowed to have many different women while athena was not. Greek guests: very welcoming, feed first > ask questions later, sea faring ppl w/ strict rules > xenius . Host: always welcome stranger, offer food/bath/chair, send them off with a gift. Guest: don"t overstay welcome, polite, gift if possible, entertain: example: Odyseus at the castle: is tend to before asked who is he and why he is crying. Group discussion: should the suitors say: They are there for protection & tradition. They are there to take the kingdom. They were led on that they were going to be picked as a husband.
