She eats it out of curiosity and wants to gain the knowledge of good and evil. After they eat the fruit, their eyes are opened. They realize they are naked and hide from god because they are ashamed. They are tainted from sin and are no longer pure. The origin and nature of sin is pride. Adam and eve eat the fruit because they thought that they were better than god or equal to god. Knowing good and evil separate us from god because: sometimes this story is also read as an account of humankind"s loss of innocence. By eating the fruit and gaining the knowledge of good and evil, mankind lost its innocence. A person would be able to live in innocence if they were to obey god but because of humankind"s sinful nature, they are unable to be innocent. It is a necessary step in life in order to know what was good.
