Document Summary

Muscular system - part ii: agonist or prime mover, muscle primarily responsible for causing movement, antagonist, opposes particular movement of agonist, synergists ( synergy , muscles help another muscle with action, prevents unwanted motion. Moving body = a system of levers. Bones, joints and muscles constitute lever system. Use to gain an advantage in force, speed or range. R = resistance force (gravity or load) Moment arm - distance between force & fulcrum. Torque = force x moment arm distance. Resistance force at some distance from fulcrum. Resistance torque = resistance force x moment arm resistance. Resistance torque = 10 x 6 = 60in-lb. Created by muscle pulling on bone to be moved. Effort torque = effort force x moment arm effort. Isotonic concentric: muscle tension > tresistance, concentric contraction, muscle shortens, causes movement, muscle tension rises to meet the resistance, then remains the same as the muscle shortens, muscle shortens, tension remains constant, bicep curl.
