Document Summary
Charles darwin"s theory on the evolution of emotional expression . Emotions were derived from behaviors that indicated what an animal would do next; over time animals developed these distinctive behaviors to signify actions. In the absence of a predictive signal, every interaction comes down to a potentially physically aggressive encounter that can cause injury. The ability to display the likelihood you"re going to fight its advantageous to the individual. The same animal at different points in time will be more or less likely to do perform a specific action. There is evidence that emotions came out of these predictive behaviors if those behaviors were advantageous. However, if predictive signals are beneficial they will be exaggerated perhaps to the point where the function is lost. The body reacts to the emotional stimuli (heart races, pupils dilate) Brain experiences emotion in response to body"s reaction (feel alarmed)
