Solitude: self-discover, inner peace, reflection, and spiritual, wanted isolation. Inner-directed solitude: self-discover and inner peace with self. Outer-directed solitude: reflecting the world around us. Criticism: attacking a person"s personality or character; usually with the intent of making someone right and someone wrong. Contempt attacking a person"s sense of self with the intention to insult or psychologically abuse. Defensiveness: seeing self as the victim, warding off a perceived attack. Making excuses-external circumstances beyond the scope of their expertise. Cross-complaining-meeting a person"s complaint or criticism with your own. Stonewalling: withdrawing from the relationship as a way to avoid conflict; the person may think they are being neutral, but are actually conveying disapproval, iciness, separation, distance, and/or smugness. Conscious communication: speaking the unarguable truth and listening. Rewrite your inner script: replace thoughts of righteous indignation and innocent victimization with thoughts of appreciation and responsibility. Practice getting unintended, letting go of the stories that you are making up.
