Document Summary

Scientific method is an approach to acquire knowledge; involves formulating specific questions and then systematically finding answers. A small set of specific observations is the basis for forming a general statement about a larger set of possible observations. Qualitative research is kind of aligned with induction as it includes working with number. Deduction is more aligned with quantitative dealing with numbers statistically while also looking at the cause and affect. A general statement is the basis for reaching a conclusion about specific examples. Variables: characteristics or conditions that change or have different values for the different individuals. Empirical: answers were obtained by making structured or systematic observations. Public: observations are available for evaluation by others. Objective: outcome is not skewed by bias. Phenomenology just describes what the person feels in the moment. Grounded theory you have to explore all the options and look into it in great detail. Practical problem or questions: general categories of research.
