Hypothesis:the effects of antidepressants are negligible and can be duplicated with placebos. The hypothesis that locf data will be more representative than oc data was rejected. Arginine vasopressin (avp) (made neuronally and then released) Works with crf in to stimulate the release of acth from the pituitary. Made in the paraventricular nucleus of the hypothalamus (pvn) Produces analgesia thought to prepare the body cope with pain due to injury. Released as the hpa response to stress. Adrenal cortex release cortisol to target tissues. Higher brain centers send info about the environment to the hypothalamus. Lecture 6: cns integration of the psychological stress response. Appraisal (evaluating a situation to determine if you should get stressed or not) Focuses on the perception of psychological stress. Stage 2: secondary appraisal (after you have determined it is stressful) Can potentially lessen the stressor value of the event. Initially costsly in terms of energy and time needed to put strategy into effect.
