Pregnant women with high levels display more mother infant bonding behaviors. Attachment requires cognitive development of object permanence *8 months. Attach to caregivers first because they learn that they are a permanent presence. No distinction between social or nonsocial stimuli. Indiscriminate attachment stage (6weeks to 7 months) Infants discriminate between social and nonsocial stimuli. But, do not show specific attachment to caregivers. Infants would enjoy attention from any adult. Will smile more at familiar adults but capable of attaching to anyone. Then examine how easy it is for mom to comfort infant. Baby seeks physical contact with mom but can interact with stranger if mom is present. Stays close to mom and explores little. Very distressed and shows anger during reunion. Wants to be close to mom but does not seek physical contact with mom.
