Establishing shot: starts farther out and brings to a closer start to show setting to audience. Eyeline match: shows where character is looking. Shot/reverse shot: one side to another side on 180 degree line. How should images connect: cooperation (continuity) between images, collision (discontinuity) between images. Uneasy joining of shots / unclear presentation of time and/or space. Image a + image b = idea c . Between continuity and discontinuity: crosscutting and intercutting: displays of narration (and tamed collision) Crosscutting: cuts between two lines of action happening simultaneously at different locations.
