NSG 3336 Lecture Notes - Lecture 46: Blurred Vision, Contact Lens, Corrective Lens
Document Summary
Coordinating care for patients with visual disorders (46) Myopia = nearsightedness > eyeball is too long or cornea has too much curve. Hereditary and environmental factors (25%) > reading in dim light and doing excessive amounts of close work may also contribute. Hyperopia = farsightedness > eyeball is too short or cornea is not curved enough. Babies and children often affected, but improve as eye grows. Astigmatism = misshaped cornea > lens or cornea is curved mores teeply in an oval instead of round shape. Heredity, injury that causes lens or cornea to become distorted, keratoconusm or diabetes. Often occurs in combination with myopia and hyperopia. Presbyopia = occurs almost exclusively with aging, and results from so of lens elasticity and occurs around age 45. Normal part of aging and almost all people experience it. All four disorders may be successfully treated with prescriptive lens > glasses or contacts. Myopia = distortion and blurred vision to distant objects.
