Thyroid, cricoid, tracheal cartilage = immature and easily collapse when neck is exed. Trachea = diameter smaller; bifurcation at t3 with the right mainstream bronchus having a steeper slope. Child"s behavior = irritable, restless, change in responsiveness. Family or personal history = asthma or cystic brosis. Forced vital capacity (fvc) = maximum amount of air that can be expired after maximum inspiration. Forced expiratory volume in 1 or 3 seconds (fev1 or fev3) = amount of air that can be forced from lungs after maximum inspiration in 1 or 3 seconds. Tidal volume = amount of air inhaled and exhaled during any respiratory cycle.
