Rehabilitation: treat and care for offenders who cannot manage themselves, system to help improve lifestyle through conventional endeavors, society to combat larger social problems. Reduce crime: people provided with legitimate employment and community ties, punishment doesn"t solve problems with people who don"t have opportunities to be helped. Due process protecting the rights of the people: system provide fair/equitable treatment, strict monitoring of discretion.
