Importance goes beyond politics into other disciplines including economics, sociology, geography, feminism and literature. Most important political writing- the communist manifesto (1848) Originally written as a recruitment pamphlet and written in only a few weeks. At its core is the relationship between economics and politics throughout history (class struggling) And blistering critique of the capitalism as defined through the industrial revolution. Marx used the french revolution as his example of a social revolution. Communism is marx explaining difference between economics and politics. French- peasants and middle class vs. the historic aristocratic order. Believed russia was a sleeping giant but felt the slavic people were not advanced enough to get his point. Western problem with marx is that unlike italy and germany (ww2) Marx"s socialism is a actual coherent political idea; Marx understood and acknowledged the need for capitalism and democracy but said that it was just another stepping stone to the true equality of communism where equality is true.
