Both science and the art of experienced practice play an important role in a teacher"s success. Theory and research both created and conducted by educational psychologists and teachers. Teachers make important classroom judgements based on personal skills, experiences, and accumulated wisdom. Exhibit subject matter competence (a teacher"s comprehension of a subject compared to a specialist- subject matter knowledge. Music majors need to know everything and understand all techniques to teach students by being an expert in the subject matter. Implement appropriate instructional strategies- most appealing manner in which you organize and present the content - teaching subject matter knowledge. Need to know all of the students and how they like to be taught to and how they absorb and learn information. Teaching knowledge- how the basic principles and strategies of a subject are best acquired and retained. Comic book way of teaching for students to understand. Know that the students are young and don"t quite yet know how to read.
