Soci 101 lecture 7: ex. at 3 all hebrew boys were in hebrew school! Pre-modern (traditional): individual does not exist, institutions: sacred canopy- religion is the dominant institution , social solidarity- mechanical solidarity / gemeinschaft / fulk, everyone lives parallel lives, what was good, true, and beautiful was religion! Modern (modernity): individual: emerges (weber), institutions- start to leave the sacred canopy. Government creates separation of church and state: social solidarity- organic / gezellschaft . Differences, complexity, survival depends on everyone doing different things: what is good is that the world is evolving, in a state of progress, what is true is science and technology! Post modern (post- modernity) : individual: hyper- individualism, you don"t have to follow any other path. Can do your own thing: institutions- deinstitutionalization. Family decides what kind of structure they want. Education and science and technology: social solidarity - contingent, negotiated, linguistic.
