Image sheet/spread sheet: more affective to load one image that has everything you need rather than loading all the images you might need. Facebook uses this technique to load all of its small little icons and stuff. so instead of having like 8 different pictures for 8 unique icons, they"re all thrown into one image. In summary, http and html/css are only good for creating static content. they don"t change, you can"t do any interactive stuff with the web page.
