Some theoretical perspectives: social learning theory (edwin sutherland, theory of differential association. Individuals are not born with prejudice attitudes, but rather learn it from others such as parents, peers, teachers, media and society around them. Prejudice can be learned by associating with prejudice models (parents, peers, teachers), not necessarily by contact with members of minority groups. We can learn it by imitating prejudice models. It can also be passed on from one generation to the next: through the process of socializations, individuals come up with excuses for committing hate crimes.
