It is important to identify the primary causes of communication apprehension, and identify strategies to overcome apprehension. 41% of people surveyed named public speaking as their greatest fear. 80% of people say they feel nervous about public speaking. 20% of all college students are highly apprehensive about speaking with others. Nervousness is a biological response to stressful situations, viewing your speech differently can help. You are most likely to become nervous about a speech moments before you give it and decreases the more prepared you are and as the speech begins. Audiences can"t see your fear unless you communicate it. Use your fear to operate more effectively than you previously might. It is important to identify your audience and their needs/attributes. Ethical speakers effectively adapt their messages to each audience and are sensitive to all cultural and ethnic backgrounds. Consider demographic information of target audience (culture, ethnicity, age, profession, gender, etc. ) Consider the psychological profile of your audience.
