Dialectic: perspective used to make sense of the world, focuses on contradictions. Suggests there are opposing, contradictory forces, that opposing forces interact, and that this interaction creates a new force. Borrowed concept from hegel; present in greek thought, buddhism, Conflict perspective: belief that society is constantly changing due to conflict. Underlying assumption: humans are competitive, conflict is the basis of society. Materialism: economic production is the basis of society.
