Cell cycle regulation: regulation is at the molecular level, normal plant & animal cells have a cell cycle control system. Proteins that integrate information and send stop or go ahead signals at key points in the cycle: both plant & animal cells can become cancerous, means they are growing out of control. A disease that claim the lives of 1 out o 5 people in the us. Cancer cells o not respond normally to the cell cycle control system. Tumor: abnormally growing mass of cells, benign. The cells remain at the original site. The cells can spread to neighboring tissue or other parts of the body. The type of tumor has/can spread in the body: the spread of cancer. Cancer cells divide excessively: they spread for a malignant tumor. Named accords to where the originate: 4 main categories: carcinomas: in external or internal coverings intestine. Skin cancer: sarcomas in support tissues. Muscle or bone leukemia in bone marrow: lymphomas.
