Document Summary

The scientific method: observation => hypothesis (needs to be testable) => experiments (hypothesis changed if experiments do(cid:374)"t support it(cid:895) => theory (cid:894)ca(cid:374) lead you to make other hypothesis, modified if additional experiments do not support it) Chemistry is the study of matter: the central science. The different states of matter: solid, liquid, and gas. Solid state of matter: particles are extremely close together in a regular pattern, have definite volumes, maintains its shape regardless of its container. Liquid state: particles are randomly placed not ordered, have a definite volume, close together but can move past each other. Physical changes: alters the material without changing its composition, ex. Taking solid water and making it liquid water then changing it to a gas. In all the cases it"s still water just in a different form. Chemical change: the conversion of one substance into another, start with separate hydrogen and oxygen molecules and then they combine together to make water.
