Getting down and dirty: soil, plant, and animal trace. Last time we had shifted our focus to biological forms of trace: hair and fur! Collect with follicles because the follicles will hopefully have mitochondrial. We continue to look at trace from nature: soil, plants, and animals. Will let us see things at a resolution upwards of 100,000 times smaller than a light microscope. Using electrons instead of light to show the image. Allows us to get much more magnification out of it. Key: the idea of a unique combination of factors. Can tell you that something is there that doesn"t belong there. Ex: a body being dragged along it, unusual dead animal. Core samples - go down at least. Ex: press down at least a foot (tend to go 2-3 ft), take a core sample, and bring it back. Different combinations of different human byproducts will tell you where you are.
