North: st. petersburg, boreal forests (large), poor soil, short growing season. Central: acidic, a little better soil, variety of agriculture. South: most agriculturally productive, black earth soil (chernozem), lush dark soil. Russian far east: proximity to pacific ocean shape region, milder climate, longer growing season, fertile river valleys: amur and ussuri, diverse flora and fauna. Caucasus and transcaucasia: located between black and caspian seas, diverse topography, complex weather and climate patterns, diverse agriculture. Less severe winters may increase energy exploration, development.
