New york officials wanted to connect the hudson river and the erie lake, called. Start of a national highway system linking together cities and towns the eerie canal. Took 6 years to complete and transformed new york city into americas economic center. Allowed for people to both move with and against the current, allowing for the river to become an actual highway. Railroads were also growing in popularity with the steam engine. Intricate and interconnected infrastructure system was becoming established in the united states allowing for emergence of more trade. Gave americans a newfound sense of travel and mobility, country felt more connected: finance. Americans grew in personal wealth and were comfortable taking risks, allowing for huge growth in the banking industry.
