Document Summary

2/21/17- the struggle for america in the 1790"s: the illusion of unity, and emerging disagreements. Jeffersonian: expansion through space: hamiltonians: expansion through time. America was able to finally grow and no longer restrained by britain. Political conflict was at its height during the 1890"s. Alexander hamilton was a forerunner during this movement. Both sides saw the other as bringing them back to tyranny and were very fearful of one false step for it all to be ruined. Advocated for national bank and other things along those lines. Debt reduction was one of his major plans. James madison was a large opposed to hamilton. 1790 hamilton issued report on public credit designed to address the debt problem. Would take on both the national debt and all the individual states and would be paid off by selling government bonds. Believed this plan would strengthen the fiscal position of the united states and allow for other commercial ventures.
