Tuscaloosa police officer, john jones, has been suspended due to a civilian shooting this morning. Jones was responding to a tip that civilian bill harris was breaking into a car at 11 p. m. last night at the 1200 block of main street. Jones and when he made a sudden reach for his right pocket, jones shot harris in his right shoulder. Harris was carrying a concealed permitted weapon on his left side, and was reaching in his right for his wallet to prove to jones that he was trying to get into his own vehicle. Harris was traveling alone and had locked his keys in his car. It has been proven that harris was telling the truth and the vehicle was his. Jones has been an officer with the tuscaloosa police department for 15 years and has been involved in a civilian shooting before in the context of an armed robbery two years ago.
