Review from last class: emic/ etic, relationship between insiders and outsider"s perspective, how to determine who counts as an insider or an outsider, study of religion separate or intimately connected to insider"s lives. Determining who counts as an insider: the festival cannot sustain its self without the incoming of english speaking countries. The vast majority of japanese tourists do not really believe the object can make a women pregnant. If we draw the line at belief, then more of the people will be authentic outsiders. The line is messy: the same thing can be said about outsiders. Etic, perspective is more outsider and objective. Emic and etic perspectives are inter dependent .
